Workshop on Determination of Cleaner Production Opportunities and Applicability in Industry (SANTEM) Project

Within the scope of the "Determination of Cleaner Production Opportunities and Applicability in Industry (SANTEM)" project signed between the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Environment and Urbanization General Directorate of Environmental Management and TUBITAK Marmara Research Center on 11.03.2016, a "Workshop on Determination of Sectoral Needs" was held for the yeast sector on September 7, 2016 at Ankara Wyndam Hotel.

Following the opening speeches by Dr. Selma Ayaz, Director of TÜBİTAK MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute and Recep Akdeniz, Deputy Director General of the General Directorate of Environmental Management, the workshop continued with a presentation by Ceren Tosun, Project Coordinator, on the project activities and the objectives of the workshop.

Following the presentations, the workshop continued with round table idea generation on "Determination of Methods and Strategies for Cleaner Production Activities in the Yeast Sector" and "Prioritization of Cleaner Production Opportunities in the Yeast Sector". In the round table studies, ideas about the requirements of our country in the field of cleaner production for the yeast sector and action proposals for these requirements were put forward by following a systematic method. Within the scope of the opportunity prioritization study, the best available sectoral techniques were evaluated.

The workshop was held with a group of approximately 60 participants consisting of representatives from the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology, Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs, Turkish Standards Institute, as well as sector associations/associations, academicians, representatives of various institutions and organizations and yeast sector representatives.

Within the scope of the SANTEM Project, similar studies are ongoing for the iron and steel sector as well as the yeast sector. Within the scope of the project, the current situation of the iron-steel and yeast sectors, sectoral needs, clean production possibilities, incentive mechanisms and legal regulations will be examined and the applicability of various possibilities identified will be evaluated under the conditions of our country.
