TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM) Materials Institute Underwater Acoustics Laboratory (SAL) has the first and only accredited infrastructure in the field of underwater acoustics in our country and continues to work on projects for the needs of the Turkish Naval Forces Command (TNFC).

Within the scope of the Barbaros Class Frigate Half-Life Modernization (YÖM) Program, the development of the Sonar Naval Test System and 4 Sonar Naval Units Project signed between TÜBİTAK MAM and ASELSAN A.Ş. The development of the Sonar Naval Unit required for the 1st ship, preparation of the index structure and test-characterization activities were completed.

The 1st Ship Sonar Naval Unit's Factory Acceptance Tests (FKT) activity was successfully carried out between 31 May - 04 June 2021 in the presence of the Acceptance Committee consisting of officials from the Presidency of Defence Industries, TNFC Research Center Command, Ministry of National Defense General Directorate of Shipyards Gölcük Shipyard Command and ASELSAN A.Ş.
