The Inaugural Meeting and Workshop of the Project on "Creation of Airports Strategic Noise Maps and Development of Alternative Scenarios for Noise Mitigation" was held on November 19-20, 2018 at the General Directorate of State Airports Authority.

The Opening Meeting and Workshop was attended by Environmental Experts from the General Directorate of State Airports Authority, relevant personnel from the airports within the scope of the project, and representatives of the project team from TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM) Environment and Cleaner Production Institute (ÇTÜE). Lead Researcher Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nesimi Özkurt from TÜBİTAK MAM METUE gave a presentation on the project and general information about the data to be provided within the scope of the project.

Researcher Deniz Sarı made a presentation on the methodology of preparing strategic noise maps at airports and its relation with the airports within the scope of the project. Researcher Melike Neşe Tezel provided general information on noise action plans at airports and explained alternative actions within the scope of the project.

"Noise Management Studies, Strategic Noise Maps and Noise Action Plans" will be prepared for the airports operated by the General Directorate of State Airports Authority in accordance with the By-Law on Assessment and Management of Environmental Noise (ÇGDYY).

Strategic noise maps will be prepared for Denizli Çardak Airport, Hakkari Yüksekova Selahaddin Eyyubi Airport, Iğdır Şehit Bülent Aydın Airport, Kastamonu Airport, Kars Harakani Airport, Ordu-Giresun Airport, Sinop Airport, Muş Airport, İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport, Antalya Airport, Ankara Esenboğa Airport, Kahramanmaraş Airport, Kayseri Airport, Van Ferit Melen Airport.

For airports for which a Strategic Noise Map has been prepared, Noise Management Candidate Areas (NMAAs) will be identified by evaluating the hot spots and noise sensitive areas where the limit values specified in the EGDYY are exceeded and where sensitive structures are located. The identified GPNAs will be prioritized and Noise Management Areas will be selected. Alternative mitigation scenarios will be developed for Noise Management Areas (NMAs). Within the scope of the scenarios developed for the solutions included in the mitigation scenarios; modeling will be carried out using the actions that will provide the predicted noise reduction and the levels of reduction in the existing noise level after the implementation of these actions will be determined. Subsequently, coordination meetings will be organized to obtain the opinions of other project stakeholders and the proposed solution alternatives will be evaluated for feasibility. Cost analysis will be carried out for the mitigation scenarios developed and "Noise Action Plan Reports" of the relevant airports will be prepared.
