The "Olive Sector Waste Management Project", which was launched on August 29, 2014 with the contract signed between the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center, is planned to be completed on August 24, 2015. In this context, a Project Closing Workshop was organized on August 14, 2015 at İzmir/Konak "Ramada Plaza Hotel in order to transfer the project outputs to the sector and to discuss the duties of the public and the sector in the management plan. The workshop was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology, the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology, the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, the Ministry of Forestry and Water, Provincial Directorates affiliated to the Ministries, Development Agencies, Chambers of Commerce and Industry, olive oil enterprises, pomace processing facilities, decanter manufacturer companies and academicians working on olive oil sector production processes and waste/waste management.
On August 14, 2015, the closing workshop of the project started with the opening speeches made by Prof. Dr. Mehmet KİTİŞ, Director of the Institute of Environment and Cleaner Production on behalf of TÜBİTAK-MAM and Recep AKDENİZ, Deputy Director General on behalf of the General Directorate of Environmental Management. In the workshop, a detailed information presentation was made by Dr. Selda MURAT HOCAOĞLU, Project Coordinator from the Institute of Environment and Cleaner Production on behalf of TUBITAK-MAM, on the current situation of the olive oil sector and the studies carried out within the scope of the project and the results achieved, and the outputs were introduced to all participants, and then the meeting continued with the presentation of 'Data Collection and Analysis' by İrfan BAŞTÜRK, Researcher from the Institute of Environment and Cleaner Production on behalf of TUBITAK-MAM. This was followed by a discussion section where the views of the participants were received on the wastewater problem of the sector, the duties of the public and the sector on the conversion of production from 3 phases to 2 phases and waste/excess management. It was stated by various participants operating in the sector that there was no similar study in which the issue was analyzed in detail with all its dimensions, and the web-based program developed within the scope of the project in order to compare all project outputs and production processes was highly appreciated.
