With the aim of sharing Turkey's know-how, experience and achievements in the fields of recycling and waste management, evaluating economic opportunities and investment opportunities in these fields with experts, supporting the development of cooperation and strengthening the waste economy, the 7th TÜRKTAY panel was held in Ankara on October 19-20, where different opinions and experiences were discussed by representatives of the public, NGOs and private sector as well as academicians who are experts in their fields.
The panel aimed to fill the gap in knowledge and practice on "Circular Economy", one of the most important issues on the agenda of the world and Turkey. The panel was organized with the following topics: "Overview and Situation Analysis of Waste Management and Recycling within the Scope of Circular Economy in Turkey", "Waste Management and Recycling Strategy and Implementation Issues in Turkey", "Environmental Policies in Turkey", "Packaging Waste Management within the Scope of Circular Economy in Turkey", "Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) within the Scope of Circular Economy", "Hazardous Waste Management in Turkey", The event was held in nine sessions under the titles of "Utilization of Waste as Fuel and Alternative Raw Materials (Energy)", "Waste Management and Recycling from the Industrialists' Perspective in the Context of Circular Economy in Turkey", "Environmental Management Systems, Manufacturing Industry, Engineering and Investment Opportunities in Turkey" and "Authorized Institutions within the Scope of Competition, Environment and Trade Law".
In the fifth session of the panel chaired by Dr. Selma AYAZ, Director of the Institute of Environment and Cleaner Production, Fatih ÖZKADI, Director of Sustainability and Government Relations at Arçelik A.Ş., Dr. Menekşe KESKİ, WEEE Regulation Officer at the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, Murat ILGAR, General Manager of Exitcom and Prof. Dr. Ata Utku AKÇİL from Süleyman Demirel University, Department of Mining Engineering shared their experiences and opinions on WEEE with the audience.
Within the scope of the panel where Horizon 2020, Waste Oils and Thermal Power Plant Wastes were also discussed, Dr. İpek ERZİ, Dr. H. Merve BAŞAR, Senior Researcher at the Environmental Clean Production Institute, and Dr. Jülide Köroğlu, Senior Researcher at the Chemical Technology Institute, participated as panelists. The panel ended after the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the panelists, general evaluation and conclusion speeches.
