A workshop to discuss the sample acceptance and legal procedures of the AMS (Accelerator Mass Spectrometry) Laboratory established at the Institute of Earth and Marine Sciences was held on June 01, 2016.
The workshop was attended by Bülent GÖNÜLTAŞ, Head of Laboratory Directorates Unit of the Department of Museums of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism; Museum Directors from Istanbul, Ankara and Kocaeli; officials from Gazi, Koç, Boğaziçi and Dokuz Eylül Universities, Turkish Atomic Energy Authority Sarayköy Nuclear Research and Training Center, General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration, and relevant Institute/Unit staff from TÜBİTAK MAM.
In the workshop, which started with the opening speech by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat MAKARACI, Vice President of Strategy and Technology Development, the importance of C14 age determination analysis for our country and the region was emphasized.
Prof. Dr. Abdullah KARAMAN, Director of the Institute of Earth and Marine Sciences, emphasized the need to determine the legal regulations, responsibilities, procedures, etc. to be followed in the acceptance of samples and testing.
After the workshop, it was decided to sign a bilateral cooperation protocol with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
After the workshop, the program ended with a tour of the AMS (Accelerator Mass Spectrometry) laboratory.
