On 14 - 15 April 2015, TUBITAK-SAS (Slovak Academy of Sciences) Workshop organized by TUBITAK International Cooperation Department and TUBITAK Marmara Research Center (TUBITAK MAM) was held at TUBITAK Industrial Sevk and Administration Institute of Turkey (TÜSSİDE) located in TUBITAK Gebze Campus.
A total of 66 people from TUBITAK, TÜBİTAK MAM, Gebze Technical University, Istanbul University, Medipol University, METU, Gazi University, Koç University, TÜBİTAK BİLGEM, Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, İGDAŞ and TSE-ICAS participated in the workshop, including 12 managers and researchers from the Slovak Republic.
The workshop started with the opening speech of TÜBİTAK MAM President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bahadır TUNABOYLU and continued with the opening speech of Dr. Jozef SESTAK, Consul General of the Slovak Republic in Istanbul. Afterwards, Ayda KARA PEKTAŞ, Deputy Scientific Programs Specialist at the Bilateral and Multilateral Relations Directorate of TUBITAK International Cooperation Department, presented the presentations of TUBITAK and TUBITAK International Cooperation Department, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat MAKARACI, Vice President of TÜBİTAK MAM, presented the ongoing projects with TÜBİTAK MAM and Slovakia, and Prof. Dr. RNDr. RNDr. Jan Dusza, DrSc. SAS (Slovak Academy of Sciences), Peter LISKA, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of VUJE (Slovak Nuclear Power Plant Research Institute) made a presentation on VUJE and Ayşe Özge GÖZAY, IMI-2 Country Representative, National Contact Point for Health, Demographic Change and Welfare, TUBITAK EU Framework Programmes National Coordination Office made a presentation on EU Horizon 2020.
Following the opening speeches and presentations, project ideas to increase academic cooperation between Turkey and the Slovak Republic were discussed and presentations were made in 6 different sessions for 2 days.
At the end of the sessions, each session coordinator made presentations on the results of their work and the results were written down. Eight different projects on nano-bio-materials, neuro-biology, biotechnology and ceramic-based composite materials were identified as areas of work. It was also stated that VUJE can help our country with training and consultancy on nuclear power plants. TÜBİTAK MAM President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bahadır TUNABOYLU, Consul General of the Slovak Republic in Istanbul Dr. Jozef SESTAK and SAS (Slovak Academy of Sciences) Board Member Prof. RNDr. Jan Dusza, DrSc signed the Cooperation Protocol. After the Cooperation Protocol, the Workshop was successfully completed with closing speeches.
