TÜBİTAK MAM shared Turkey's artificial intelligence and digitalization applications in energy systems with international stakeholders at the RD20 Conference in Japan.
The 7th RD20 Conference (Research and Development 20), organized by Japan's leading research institution AIST (National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology) with the participation of research institutions from G20 countries, was held in Tsukuba between September 30 and October 3, 2025. The theme of this year's conference was "Artificial Intelligence and Digitalization for a Carbon Neutral Future".
At the workshop titled "AI and Digitalization for Energy" organized as part of the event, Dr. Doğan Gezer, Vice President Coordinator of TÜBİTAK MAM Energy Technologies, made an online presentation titled "AI and Digitalization Studies in Turkish Power System". The presentation introduced TÜBİTAK MAM's R&D projects on digital transformation of power systems in Turkey, AI-enabled predictive maintenance, renewable energy integration and energy efficiency improvement.
Representatives from AIST (Japan), KIER (Korea), ENEA (Italy) and NRC (Canada) also took part in the workshop. The session was moderated by Dr. Taha Selim Üstün (AIST, Japan), Dr. Jehyun Lee (KIER, Korea) and Dr. Saptak Dutta (NRC, Canada). The session discussed the impacts of digitalization on the resilience, security and sustainability of energy systems.
Since 2019, the RD20 platform aims to bring together leading research organizations from G20 countries to develop international R&D collaborations in clean energy technologies. At this year's conference, sessions were held under the headings of energy storage, artificial intelligence, synthetic fuels and international joint projects.
TÜBİTAK MAM continues to contribute to international collaborative research on digitalization, energy efficiency and sustainable energy systems within the RD20 network.
