The TÜBİTAK MAM Materials Institute has succeeded in increasing the strength of 1.1 mm thick thin glass by 3.5 times by improving the glass surface with a special technique.
As a result of the studies carried out in the laboratories of the Institute of Materials, not only the strength of thin glass was increased, but also the wavelength-selective properties of the glass were added thanks to the nano-sized grains formed in the structure of the glass. Thus, durable, solar control and antibacterial glass was obtained.
Geliştirilen camın, JIS Z 2801 standardı test metoduna göre yapılan antibakteriyel aktivite testinde, bakteri hücrelerini %99,998’den fazla bir oranda azalttığı belirlendi. Cam yüzeyinin kendi yapısı antibakteriyel hale getirildiğinden, üretilen ürün; kaplama uygulamalarına kıyasla daha dayanıklı ve dış ortam kullanımına daha uygun özelliklere sahip.
The technology used in the chemical strengthening of thin glass is being used in applications that require a combination of advanced mechanical and optical properties, such as solar panels, aircraft and high-speed train cockpits. Chemically strengthened, antibacterial and solar control thin glass has a wide range of applications such as touch screens (mobile phones, tablets, computers, ATMs, etc.), public subway toilets, etc., laboratory equipment where bacteria growth is not desired and white goods exterior surfaces.
