Within the scope of the project, the workshop on "Evaluation of management proposals for liquid wastes generated in health institutions" was held on 24 May 2017 at TÜBİTAK TÜSSİDE.

Within the scope of the "Treatment and Disposal of Wastewater from Healthcare Institutions Project" being carried out by TÜBİTAK MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute under the coordination of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, a workshop was held on 24 May 2017 in TÜBİTAK TÜSSİDE Gebze/Kocaeli in order to evaluate the proposals prepared for the management of liquid waste and wastewater generated in healthcare institutions. The workshop was attended by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, Kocaeli Public Hospitals Union General Secretariat, Sakarya Water and Sewerage Administration (SASKİ), microbiology, pathology and biochemistry laboratory specialists/technicians, quality unit managers, environmental health technicians, waste disposal facilities, academicians working on waste management and its effects on the receiving environment. After the opening and presentations, information about the working method was given and group work started. The group work consisted of a general discussion on the management of liquid wastes generated in health institutions; a general discussion for liquid wastes that are currently collected separately, evaluation of the collectability of liquid wastes proposed to be collected separately within the scope of the project, discussion of possible problems and their fate in waste disposal facilities, and evaluation of the environmental impact of liquid wastes that are proposed to be discharged into the sewerage system. Experts on the subject discussed different dimensions and issues such as separate collection of liquid wastes, recyclability and discharge to sewage were evaluated regarding the manageability of the liquid wastes that came to the fore.
