Within the scope of the "Treatment and Disposal of Wastewater from Healthcare Institutions Project" carried out by TÜBİTAK MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute under the coordination of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, Training on Treatment and Disposal of Wastewater from Healthcare Institutions was held in Ankara on 23-25 January 2018. Within the scope of the training, training presentations were made to the representatives of Provincial Directorates of Environment and Urbanization across Turkey in three different groups for three days on wastewater and liquid waste sources and characterization of health institutions, international practices on liquid waste/wastewater management from health institutions, wastewater/liquid waste management handbook prepared for health institutions within the scope of the project, discharge parameters and monitoring.

The training started with the introduction of the project by Project Coordinator Dr. Selda MURAT HOCAOĞLU from TÜBİTAK MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute. The training program continued with presentations by Mehtap DURSUN, İrfan BAŞTÜRK, Recep PARTAL, Dr. Selda MURAT HOCAOĞLU from TÜBİTAK MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute and Prof. Dr. Ülkü YETİŞ from Middle East Technical University (METU) Environmental Engineering Department. Following the presentations, the "Health Institutions Wastewater/Liquid Waste Management Handbook", which contains information on the issues to be considered in wastewater disposal and liquid waste management and the measures to be taken in order to reduce the pollution caused and/or likely to be caused by health institutions at the source, was explained in detail to the Ministry personnel. This handbook prepared within the scope of the project is the first document on liquid waste/wastewater management in the health sector in our country, as well as providing information to the health sector on how to manage liquid waste/wastewater generated in health institutions. For this reason, it is closely related to all health institutions in our country and the representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization who are in close relationship with these institutions.
