Noise maps of 31 airports were created within the scope of the project "Creation of Strategic Noise Maps of Airports Operated by DHMI in Turkey" initiated with the contract signed between the General Directorate of State Airports Authority under the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications and TÜBİTAK MAM.
According to the work plan of the project, "Training on Preparation of Strategic Noise Maps at Airports" was held in Gebze, Kocaeli between 07-11 May 2018. A total of 68 people from the General Directorate of State Airports Authority and 31 airport representatives participated in the training. The training started with the opening speech of Dr. Selma Ayaz, Director of TÜBİTAK MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute and continued with the presentation of general information about the project by Project Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nesimi Özkurt. The program was completed with the presentation of the project team consisting of Deniz Sarı, Samet Feyyaz Hamamcı, Melike Neşe Tezel, Muhammet Erdöl on the application steps of preparing strategic noise maps and reports with sample data at a representative airport.
Strategic noise maps are the most important tools for identifying areas for mitigation and control measures. Together with the strategic estimation of noise exposure (level dependent exposure percentages of the affected population), they help in the further development of noise policy. They are also important for informing the public and decision-makers at local, national and international level. With the results of the strategic noise map, noise problems that may occur in the future can be largely prevented at the planning stage by considering the noise factor. The By-Law on Assessment and Management of Environmental Noise (ÇGDYY) was prepared with the harmonization studies of the Environmental Noise Directive (END) No. 2002/49/EC, which is included in our national program in the EU harmonization process and under the responsibility of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. Various institutions and organizations are obliged to create strategic noise maps within the framework of certain criteria in the Environmental Noise Directive. According to the legislation, the preparation of airport strategic noise maps is the responsibility of the operating institution/organization. With this project, the strategic noise maps of a total of 39 airports operated by the General Directorate of State Airports Authority, which have an important share in the transportation sector in our country and will become more important with increasing investments, have been completed and approved by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. In addition, a Noise Simulation Model was developed for the airports in the scope.
31 For the dB(A) levels specified in the EGDYY for daytime (07-19), evening (19-23) and nighttime (23-07) time periods in the airport's impact area (circular area within a radius of 25 Km centered on the airport reference point);
- Noise-affected area sizes,
- Number of houses, schools and hospitals,
- The number of people living in the dwellings was calculated.
Also for designated work areas around airports;
- 5 dB (A) range maps
- >55, >65 and >75 dB(A) maps
- Facade maps
- Limit value maps
- Contour maps have been created.
