Representatives of TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM), Fenerbahçe University and Marmara University came together at TÜBİTAK MAM to evaluate cooperation opportunities in academia and R&D. The program started with an evaluation meeting where inter-institutional cooperation and joint research potentials were discussed.

TÜBİTAK MAM President Prof. Dr. Burcu ÖZSOY, Fenerbahçe University Rector Prof. Dr. Fatma Kanca and Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Şükriye Güniz Küçükgüzel attended the meeting. Prof. Dr. Cenap Açıkkol also took part in the meeting and Prof. Dr. Sevim Rollas, Former Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, from Marmara University.

Following the evaluation meeting, Prof. Dr. Sevim Rollas gave a technical seminar titled “The Use of Plant Secondary Metabolites and Extracts in the Pharmaceutical Industry”. Within the scope of the seminar, the role of plant-derived secondary metabolites in the discovery and development of new molecular structures was discussed and information was shared about the potential uses of these compounds in the active substance development processes in the pharmaceutical industry.

The presentation also evaluated methods for the isolation, characterization and integration of plant-derived compounds into drug development processes and approaches to transfer academic research outputs to industrial applications. In addition, the scientific and technological contributions that plant-based natural compounds can provide in terms of domestic pharmaceutical raw material production were emphasized.

The program provided an up-to-date information platform in the field of plant chemistry and pharmaceutical technologies and contributed to the development of academic dialogue and common scientific ideas between the two institutions.
