Nuclear Energy Expert Mr. Prof. Dr. Necmi DAYDAY, Nuclear Energy Specialist, gave a seminar on "Applications in Nuclear Research Reactors, Basic Sciences, Technical and Technological Issues" on October 20, 2016.
In the seminar organized by the Technology Development and Management Unit of the Vice Presidency of Strategy and Technology Development, the opening speech was delivered by the Vice President of Strategy and Technology Development, Assoc. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat MAKARACI delivered the opening speech.
In the seminar, a brief history of nuclear research reactors, types of nuclear research reactors, types of nuclear research reactors, Scientific, Technical and Technological Applications and Application Areas were discussed.
Application areas:
- By neutron activation analysis: Determination of elemental composition of chemical, geological, biological, environmental, forensic, archaeological and art samples
- Neutron Scattering method: Non-destructive testing of materials; study of the order and dynamics of condensed matter atoms and molecules; surface studies of thin films, polymers and biological materials.
- Nuclear cross section measurements
- Neutron Radiography: Non-destructive testing, detection of the contents of large volumes of materials
- Production of radioisotopes for research and applications in medicine, industry, agriculture, food, biology, etc,
- Irradiation tests for the examination, testing and qualification of reactor fuels and structural materials and their development.
