Fikri Işık, Minister of Science, Industry and Technology, reported that a battery with a nominal voltage of at least 28 volts and a capacity of 24 Ah will be developed to store and use the energy required by satellite systems.
TÜBİTAK to produce satellite batteries
Minister Işık made statements to AA about the TÜBİTAK "Development of Lithium Ion Battery and Battery for Satellite" project.
Explaining that TÜBİTAK developed the project with the support of the Ministry of Development upon the request of the R&D and Technology Department of the Ministry of National Defense, Işık said that the project aims to develop cell and battery production technology suitable for storing the energy required by the main contractor İMECE satellite systems, and to provide space specifications for cell and battery production and products.
Ready in 2017
Işık stated that when the project, which started last year, is completed, it is planned to develop a battery with a nominal voltage of at least 28 volts and a capacity of 24 Ah, to store and use the energy required by satellite systems, to produce and test prototypes, and to produce and deliver the battery to the main contractor for space specification. Noting that a total budget of 9.8 million liras has been allocated for the project, which started last year, Işık said that the work is expected to be completed in 2017. Işık announced that the production line will be established at the TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center in July 2016.
