The Closing Meeting of the "Determination of Resource Efficiency Potential in Industry Project (SANVER)" was held in Ankara on September 12, 2017.

The Closing Meeting of the "Determination of Resource Efficiency Potential in Industry Project" supported by the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology General Directorate of Productivity and carried out by TUBITAK Marmara Research Center was held on September 12, 2017 at Wyndham Ankara Hotel with the participation of relevant public institutions and organizations, academicians, sector unions/associations and representatives of various industrial facilities operating in the manufacturing industry.

Within the scope of the project, the potential savings that can be achieved through the efficient and sustainable use of raw materials, energy and water inputs were estimated in quantitative and monetary terms at the sector, region and manufacturing industry level, based on five sectors selected through various studies in the Turkish manufacturing industry.

The meeting started with the opening speeches of Anıl Yılmaz, General Director of Productivity, and Dr. Selma Ayaz, Director of TÜBİTAK MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute.

Emphasizing that the General Directorate is working to improve energy efficiency by increasing productivity in production, Yılmaz also presented examples of various projects. Mr. Yılmaz emphasized the importance of the "Determination of Resource Efficiency Potential in Industry Project" and stated that this project is a comprehensive project that has no previous examples in our country and its outputs are very valuable for our country. He also stated that this project will guide the practices to be realized in our country in the field of resource efficiency and cleaner production, and that the outputs will be evaluated in determining various policies.

Dr. Selma Ayaz He stated that while the industrialization process continues in our country, there is a need to implement clean technologies in order to increase efficiency in resource use and reduce the pressure on natural resources, and that significant resource savings can be achieved through the dissemination of clean production activities. He also stated that since each sector in the manufacturing industry differs in terms of resource utilization and the resources of our country are limited, it would be more beneficial to implement resource efficiency practices in sectoral areas.

At the meeting, Project Coordinator Industry and Technology Specialist Özlem Durmuş gave a general briefing on the project and explained the purpose, scope and objectives of the project. In addition, after giving examples of similar studies in the world, it was expressed why the Ministry designed a project for this field.

Later in the meeting, Dr. Şeyma Karahan, Project Manager from TÜBİTAK MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute, explained the methodology followed in determining the sub-sectors and conducting the survey and field studies. Afterwards, the quantitative and monetary results of the estimated savings potential in raw materials, energy and water inputs based on five selected sectors in the Turkish manufacturing industry were shared with the participants at the sector, regional and Turkish manufacturing industry level.

Following the sharing of the results, Anadolu University Faculty of Economics Faculty Member and Project Advisor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yılmaz Kılıçaslan provided detailed information on the potential savings analysis methodology developed in the project. He also touched upon the creation of the sample, the difficulties encountered regarding the data infrastructure in our country and the survey applied to the enterprises in this sample, and drew attention to the importance of the project due to the design of a unique method in the national area in the calculations.
