"Workshop on Gap Analysis and Identification of National Targets and Hotspots (February 7-9, 2017)" It was held in TÜBİTAK/Ankara.

Within the scope of the "Project on Updating the National Action Plan for the Protection of Our Seas against Land-Borne Pollutants", the "Workshop on Gap Analysis and Identification of National Targets and Hot Spots" was held on 06-09 February 2017 at the TÜBİTAK Presidency/Ankara Meeting Rooms. The Workshop was attended by 97 participants from the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, TÜBİTAK-MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute, Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology, Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology, Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs, Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications, TurkStat, Ministry of Health, SHOD, universities, development agencies, NGOs and Coastal Provincial Directorates of Environment and Urbanization and Metropolitan Municipalities in coastal provinces.

The workshop started with the opening speech of Mr. Murat Turan, Head of Marine and Coastal Management Department from the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, General Directorate of Environmental Management. Following the introduction of the MMR NAP Project, presentations on regional and national legal regulations, policies and technical studies on the three main topics of the Project, namely "eutrophication, pollutants and marine litter" were made during the first day of the Workshop.

On the second day of the Workshop, firstly, the introduction of the Thematic Working Groups, working method and the documents to be used were briefed and then the participants were divided into "Urban/Municipal, Industrial and Agricultural Thematic Working Groups" according to their subjects and directed to different meeting rooms with the Group Leaders. The Thematic Working Groups made legal, strategic and technical assessments on regional/national targets, national and basin-based problems/gaps, within their own subjects. The Thematic Working Groups were guided by the Group Leader of each area and the evaluations/recommendations made within the groups were recorded by the rapporteurs designated for each group.

On the third day of the Workshop, all participants came together to listen to the group presentations made by the Thematic Working Group Leaders and Rapporteurs and to make the final evaluations of the Workshop. Afterwards, an assessment was made on the "Hotspots Update Methodology" and the work to be carried out with stakeholders on this issue. Finally, the 4th Thematic Working Group, the "Monitoring Working Group", consisting of representatives from each Thematic Working Group, made a general evaluation of the work carried out during the Workshop.

The results of the Workshop on Gap Analysis and Identification of National Targets and Hotspots will form an important basis for the "Workshop on Identification of Measures" planned to be held in May 2017 under the Project.
