Our country's SCAR membership request was made with a 10-minute presentation describing the scientific activities carried out by Turkish Scientists in the Antarctic continent, dating back to 1968. In the meeting attended by delegates from 30 countries, including Argentina, Chile, South Korea, Austria, etc., Turkey's membership application was met with great interest, and the fact that the studies on the continent date back to the 1960s drew attention. In addition, the map drawn by the Turkish cartographer Piri Reis in 1513, showing a part of the coasts of South America and Antarctica, was also included in the presentation and attracted great interest. After the presentation, Malaysia, Chile, Ukraine, Ukraine, South Africa, China and Spain expressed their full support. It was also stated by the Committee that Turkey's application for full membership should be made without losing time.
