Within the scope of the "Training Projects" of the Bilateral Cooperation Plan carried out by the European Patent Office (EPO) and the Turkish Patent Institute, a training event on "How to Understand the European Patent Office (EPO) Research Reports and Written Opinions" was organized in English on 5 May 2015 at the Turkish Patent Institute.

In his speech at the opening ceremony, TPI President Prof. Dr. Habip ASAN stated that the training is one of the concrete indicators of the cooperation between EPO and TPI and that the formation of this platform, which allows experts to share information, is very pleasing.

He stated that the TPI started to organize research reports in 2005 and that increasing the research and examination capacity has been among the priority strategies of the Institute in the last 10 years. He emphasized that this training opportunity offered by the European Patent Academy is extremely valuable in terms of increasing the qualitative capacity and sharing information.

Prof. Dr. ASAN stated that whether the criteria of novelty, inventive step and industrial applicability, which are in question in the protection of inventions, are interpreted with the research reports that reveal the known state of the art. Prof. Dr. ASAN said that with this training program, where research reports, which are very important in terms of the patent process, will be discussed in detail, a new one has been added to the trainings organized by the TPI for stakeholders.

Marcus RABE, Representative of the European Patent Office, expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation and said that the training would be useful for users.

The training program covered patent procedures, structure of the research report, special cases, EPC and PCT. Seher YALÇIN from TÜBİTAK MAM Chemical Technology Institute and Gülsen OKSAY from MAM Strategy and Technology Development Vice President / Patent Support Unit participated in the training event.
