TUBITAK President Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal met with UN Under-Secretary-General Rebab Fatima, responsible for the United Nations Office of the High Representative for Landlocked Countries and Small Island States (UNOHRLLS), at the TUBITAK Gebze campus prior to the 2024 Mid-Term Council Meeting of the United Nations Technology Bank for Least Developed Countries (UNTB), which he chairs the Governing Council.
During the meeting, which was also attended by Deodat Maharaj, Director of the UN Technology Bank, Rabab Fatima reiterated his gratitude to our country for our financial and administrative contributions to the Technology Bank. During the meeting, the developments in the joint projects currently being carried out by UNTAD and TUBITAK and the work to be done to find new resources were also discussed.
At the Technology Bank Management Council Meeting, which Prof. Dr. Hasan MANDAL attended as the Chairman of the Council, BMTB's activities in the first half of 2024 were evaluated and the preparations and studies regarding BMTB's 2025-2027 Strategic Plan were discussed.
On 26 July 2024, representatives of LDCs, who were in Turkey for the "Annual Meeting of National Contact Points of LDCs" organized by UNWTO and UNOHRLLS, visited TÜBİTAK Gebze Campus.
The meeting touched upon the activities that can be carried out within the scope of the needs of LDCs for sustainable development and development, and information about the scientific and technological activities carried out by our centers and institutes was shared with the participants.
TÜBİTAK President Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal made a presentation on global challenges and proposed solutions. In his presentation, Mandal emphasized that LDCs, as well as the whole world, need ICT studies to solve global problems. In the presentation, which also mentioned the support that our Agency can provide to them in these studies, it was stated that we are open to support LDCs, especially within the scope of the technologies developed and studies carried out by our Agency. Prof. Mandal stated that they look positively on cooperation and technology transfer with LDCs and emphasized the importance of developing and achieving together for global technological development.
After the presentations, visits were made to the laboratories of TÜBİTAK Institutes and Centers in the areas of interest of LDCs. TÜBİTAK researchers informed LDC representatives about the technologies and R&D activities developed by TÜBİTAK.
