Kocaeli Environment Council was held on November 02, 2021 at Kocaeli Congress Center within the scope of "Kocaeli Sustainable Environment Action Plan". Following the speeches and presentations of Kocaeli Governor Seddar Yavuz and Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Assoc. Dr. Tahir Büyükakın, workshop focus group meetings were held on 13 topics (climate change mitigation, climate change adaptation, local transportation, urban green areas covering sustainable land use, nature and biodiversity, air quality, environmental noise and vibration quality, waste generation and management, water and wastewater management, eco innovation and sustainable business, energy performance, integrated environmental management and Izmit Bay).

The "Izmit Bay" session, which was attended by many institutions and organizations, was moderated by Dr. Selma Ayaz, Director of TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center Environment and Clean Production Institute.

Participants were presented on Izmit Bay and its pressures and asked questions on eutrophication, biodiversity, maritime activities and hazardous substances. Past experiences of all stakeholders, the current situation of Izmit Bay, future planning and examples of good practices were discussed.
