JAPAN DISASTER RELIEF TEAM DELEGATION (JDR) VISITS TÜBİTAK MAM

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Japan Disaster Relief Team (JDR) consisting of construction and engineering experts visited TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM) on March 13, 2023.

Prior to the cooperation meeting held within the scope of the visit, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nesimi Özkurt shared information about the fields of activity of TÜBİTAK MAM Climate Change and Sustainability Vice Presidency. The meeting was attended by Dr. Erhan İlkmen, Leader of the Earth Sciences Research Group (YBAG), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ergin, Senior Principal Researcher, Dr. Ahmet Ökeler, Senior Principal Researcher at the Water Management and Treatment Technologies Research Group, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Baban, Senior Senior Researcher Assoc. Prof. Dr. Selda Murat Hocaoğlu, Circular Economy and Resource Efficiency Research Group Leader Tuba Budak Duhbacı, Senior Senior Researcher Dr. Özgür Doğan, and a delegation of 10 people from JDR and JICA.

At the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ergin made an introductory presentation of YBAG under the Vice Presidency of TÜBİTAK MAM Climate Change and Sustainability. Earthquake studies carried out by YBAG and soil classification, earthquake hazard and risk assessment projects in cities were explained. JDR officials also summarized their opinions as a result of field studies.

After the presentations, JICA and JDR officials exchanged information on cooperation alternatives in the fields of surface structures and construction sector.

After the meeting, the Active Tectonics Research Laboratory and the National 1 MV Accelerated Mass Spectroscopy (AMS) laboratory were visited in the YBAG building. The delegation was informed about the work carried out in the laboratories.
