International Summer School on ''Water Management in Coastal Settlements''

EXCEED - SWINDON project coordinated by the Technical University of Braunschweig - Germany (www.exceed-swindon.org), an international summer school on "Water Management in Coastal Settlements" was organized. The summer school was supported by DAAD (Higher Education Excellence in Development Cooperation) and was held between October 2-8, 2016 in Cevahir Hotel Maltepe/Istanbul under the coordination of Technical University of Braunschweig and TUBITAK MAM Environment and Clean Production Institute (ÇTÜE).

TÜBİTAK MAM In the project, in which ÇTÜE is among the partners, it is envisaged to develop technologies for water recovery for sustainable water management and research projects within this framework. These projects include topics such as reduction of water used in agriculture, water management for large cities-metropolises, water ecosystems and coastal engineering, water in global scale, drought and floods, water quality and health.

The summer school was attended by M.S., Ph.D. students, postdoctoral researchers, engineers and experts working in the field of water and wastewater from the MENA region, Brazil, Vietnam, Ethiopia and Nigeria. During the summer school, lectures were given on environmental impacts, wastewater treatment recovery systems, integrated water management for coastal areas, watershed management, GIS. Participating students made presentations on their own work. Technical visits were also organized to ISKI Paşaköy Advanced Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant and Gebze Balçık Natural Wastewater Treatment Plant.
