The closing meeting of the Establishment of Inventory Infrastructure for Source-Based Noise Modeling in Turkey (GÜRMOD) Project was held on December 12, 2017 in Ankara.
The GÜRMOD Project, which started on July 26, 2017 with the protocol signed between the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM), ended on December 4, 2017. During this period, inventory infrastructure was prepared for source-based noise modeling in the residential areas within the scope of the project.
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization Prof. Dr. Mustafa Öztürk and TÜBİTAK MAM Vice President Dr. İbrahim Bekâr led the meeting, which was attended by Director General of Environmental Management Muhammet Ecel, Deputy Director General of Environmental Management Sebahattin Dökmeci, Director General of Environmental Management Air Management Department Head Betül Aydın Küçükay, Branch Manager Nuray Hüsmen and relevant branch personnel, TÜBİTAK MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute Director Dr. Selma Ayaz, Project Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nesimi Özkurt, Project Coordinator Assist. Researcher Deniz Sarı and relevant project staff participated.
114 representatives from 41 Provincial and District Municipalities (Afyonkarahisar, Ağrı, Aksaray, Amasya, Aydın, Batman, Bingöl, Çanakkale, Çorum, Denizli, Düzce, Edirne, Erzincan, Giresun, Hatay, Isparta, Karabük, Karaman, Kars, Kastamonu, Kırıkkale, Kırklareli, Kırşehir, Kütahya, Mardin, Muğla, Nevşehir, Niğde, Ordu, Osmaniye, Rize, Siirt, Şanlıurfa, Şırnak, Tekirdağ, Tokat, Uşak, Van, Yalova, Yozgat and Zonguldak), Provincial Directorates of Environment and Urbanization and relevant Institutions / Organizations took part in the meeting.
In his opening speech, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Öztürk, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, stated that the sources examined within the scope of the project are evaluated in the status of outdoor environmental noise, but the Ministry also carries out studies on indoor noise control and the importance of noise control in creating quieter, livable cities.
TÜBİTAK MAM Vice President Dr. İbrahim Bekâr stated that in the light of the studies carried out in the project, a resource inventory infrastructure was created for industrial facilities, entertainment venues, highways and railways in 69 settlements within the scope of the project to be used in noise modeling. He also emphasized that the experienced team, which prepared strategic noise maps of 18 provinces and 34 airports, will continue to respond to the needs of the country in action plans and noise control technologies.
Betül Aydın Küçükay, Head of Air Management Department of the General Directorate of Environmental Management, made a presentation on noise legislation in our country and the studies on environmental noise management supported by the Ministry.
Project Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nesimi Özkurt gave a presentation on the importance of the project, work plan, project outputs, strategic noise mapping and noise control.
