"2nd Graphene and Related Technologies: from Laboratory to Industry - 2015" conference was organized in Istanbul on October 15-16, 2015 with the joint contributions of TÜBİTAK MAM Materials Institute, Sabancı University, Gebze Technical University and TOBB University of Economics and Technology.
In order to emphasize the importance of graphene, to identify potential markets in Turkey and to draw a road map, the second conference "Graphene and Related Technologies from Laboratory to Industry" was held on October 15-16, 2015 at Istanbul Kozyatağı Hilton Hotel.
The conference started with the opening speech of Dr. Volkan ÖZGÜZ, Director of Sabancı University Nanotechnology Center and continued with the speeches of Prof. Dr. Cengiz ÖZKAN from UC Riverside University and Dr. İbrahim BEKAR, Vice President of TÜBİTAK MAM. After the introductory presentation by Dr. İbrahim BEKAR, the vision of TÜBİTAK MAM regarding nanotechnology and graphene was mentioned.
21. yüzyılın mucizevi malzemesi olan grafen, karbon atomunun bal peteği örgüsü şeklindeki iki boyutlu ve bir atom kalınlığında bir yapıdır ve olağanüstü mekanik, kimyasal, bariyer özelliği, yüksek elektrik iletkenliği ve yüksek yüzey alanı olan bir malzemedir. Grafen tabakaları grafitin yapısında bulunmakta olup van der waals bağları ile birbirlerine tutunmaktadırlar. Grafen üretimi için ark plazma, kimyasal buhar depolama ve kimyasal eksfoliasyon olmak üzere üç farklı teknik yaygın olarak kullanılmaktadır. Grafen olağanüstü özellikleri sayesinde kompozit malzemelerde, hidrojen depolamada, bataryalarda, süperkapasitörlerde, dokunmatik ekranlarda, transistörlerde, sensörlerde ve su arıtımında kullanabilme imkanı bulabilmektedir. Bu konularda dünyada grafen üzerine ciddi yatırımlar yapılmaktadır. Grafen pazarı 2012’de 9 milyon Dolar civarındayken 2020’da %40 artışla 126 milyon Dolara ulaşılacağı düşünülmektedir. Bu pazar büyüklüğü yalnızca grafen ürünü için geçerli olup grafen ile geliştirilen ürünler için daha yüksektir. Katma değeri yüksek ürünlerin üretiminde yer almamız ülke ekonomisi açısından da önem taşımaktadır.
The conference consisted of the following 4 main topics:
Theme 1: 2D and 3D graphene materials (synthesis, structural properties and applications)
Theme 2: Electronic applications (transparent and foldable electrodes and sensors)
Theme 3: Energy applications (supercapacitors, lithium ion batteries, photovoltaics)
Theme 4: Graphene-based composites
For each theme, researchers from Europe, USA, Singapore, Singapore, South Korea and Turkey who have achieved success in these fields gave speeches at the conference. The first plenary speech of the conference was delivered by Prof. Rodney RUOFF from Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) in South Korea. The conference also included speakers from our country's industry such as ARÇELİK and ROKETSAN, and a panel was also organized. Thus, a platform was created where academia and industry were brought together and efforts were made to determine the road map of our country on this issue.
