"Gas Technologies Center of Excellence (GAZTEM) National Stakeholders Meeting"

The "Gas Technologies Center of Excellence (GAZTEM) Project", which is being carried out by the TÜBİTAK MAM Energy Institute with the support of the Ministry of Development, aims to establish a center where R&D studies and industrial services will be carried out for the development of highly efficient, innovative, competitive and environmentally friendly systems and processes in gas technologies between 2011-2015.

In this context, the "Gas Technologies Center of Excellence (GAZTEM) National Stakeholders Meeting" was held in Kuşadası on November 12-14, 2015 in order to evaluate recent cooperation activities and develop new projects with sector representatives and all relevant stakeholders.

GAZTEM National Stakeholders Meeting started with the opening speeches of TÜBİTAK MAM President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bahadır TUNABOYLU, Ministry of Development Energy Expert Yıldız ERKMEN, Turkish Coal Enterprises Assistant General Manager Dr. Abdurrahman MURAT. The meeting was attended by more than 100 people from the Ministry of Development, TKİ, EÜAŞ, SEAŞ, General Directorate of Renewable Energy, Istanbul Enerji A.Ş, İGDAŞ, İSTAÇ, UGETAM, GAZMER, KGS, KarakayaTech, Tüpraş, AYGAZ, GAIA CF, Altaca, Eksim, Istanbul Technical University, Kocaeli University, Ege University, Middle East Technical University, Hacettepe University, Bilkent University, Marmara University, Italy-CNR and Germany FZ Jülich Research Center.

TÜBİTAK MAM Energy Institute project manager Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atilla ERSÖZ and project stakeholders made presentations in five sessions with rich content. A total of 30 technical presentations took place in the sessions on "Fuel and Valuable Chemical Production Technologies from Fossil Fuels and Renewable Resources", "Carbon Dioxide Capture, Storage and Utilization Technologies", "Gas Treatment/Cleaning Technologies", "Alternative Technologies", "Gas Transmission/Distribution and Industrial Services".

The most important part of the meeting was the GAZTEM Workshop, where working groups were formed to discuss important issues related to gas technologies. Participants discussed solution proposals for the current situation in the field of gas technologies, R&D projects and cooperation opportunities.

On the 3rd day of the meeting, a technical visit was organized to the 1 MWt pilot plant of the TÜBİTAK and TKİ supported "Liquid Fuel Production from Biomass and Coal Mixtures (TRIJEN) Project" in Soma. TRIGEN project coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fehmi AKGÜN gave information to the participants about the facility and the current status of the project.
