Focus Group Meetings and 2nd Regional Workshop Completed in Konya and Isparta

The first series of Focus Group Meetings and the 2nd Regional Workshop of the ACLIFS Project were held in Konya and Isparta for the Eğirdir-Karacaören and Beyşehir Lakes Basins.

Co-financed by the European Union and the Republic of Turkey under the Climate Change Adaptation Grant Scheme (CCAGP) and carried out under the coordination of TUBITAK Marmara Research Center in partnership with Isparta University of Applied Sciences, Ege University, Istanbul University, Istanbul Technical University, International Directorate of Agricultural Research Institute and Fruit Research Institute "ACLIFS - Assessing the Impacts of Climate Change on Food Security and Enhancing the Resilience of Rural Communities" project was completed on 16-17 September in Beyşehir district of Konya and Yalvaç and Eğirdir districts of Yalvaç and Eğirdir districts of Isparta, respectively, under the organization of Eğirdir Fruit Research Institute. The 2nd Regional Workshop was held on September 18th in the meeting halls of Isparta Eğirdir Fruit Research Institute (MAREM).

The focus group meetings and workshop organized for the Eğirdir-Karacaören and Beyşehir Lakes Basins were attended by 80 and 90 people, respectively. In the focus group meetings, project stakeholders, especially farmers, were brought together and climate change adaptation measures were evaluated. The opening speech of the workshop organized after the focus group meetings was delivered by Mr. İsmail DEMİRTAŞ, Deputy Director of Fruit Research Institute. Dr. İsmail DEMİRTAŞ, Deputy Director of the Fruit Research Institute, delivered the opening speech. Afterwards, the project coordinator Dr. Tuğba DOĞAN GÜZEL introduced the project and gave information about the activities carried out within the scope of the project and the workshop program. Then, Assoc. Prof. Sinan DEMİR from Isparta University of Applied Sciences presented the first modeling results for the study area and what awaits the region.

During the workshop, participants elaborated on the climate change adaptation measures shaped in focus group meetings at different tables and on the online platform under the headings of water management and combating drought, sustainability in crop production and adaptation of livestock to climate change. In this context, sub-actions, performance indicators and the main stakeholders and actors playing a critical role were identified for each adaptation measure.

In the next phase of the project, it is planned to organize Focus Group Meetings and 2nd Regional Workshop and Project Consultation Meeting for Küçük Menderes Basin.
