Determination of Bathing Water Profiles in Turkish Coasts

Within the scope of the "Project on Determination of Bathing Water Profiles in Turkish Coasts" initiated on October 18, 2012 with the contract signed between the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and TUBITAK Marmara Research Center, "Determination of Bathing Water Profiles in Turkish Coasts, Wastewater Management in Tourism Training and Closing Workshop" was organized on September 24-26, 2014 at "Hegsagone Business & Meeting Hotel- Bayramoğlu" facilities in Kocaeli/Darıca. Provincial Directorates of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization of all coastal provinces and Water Sewerage Administrations and Environmental Protection Departments of Metropolitan Municipalities participated in the workshop.

Trainings were given on the first two days of the three-day event and the project closing workshop was held on the last day. On the first day of the two-day training, training was given on "Determination of Bathing Water Profiles" and on the second day on "Wastewater Management in Tourism". The trainings started with presentations by Prof. Dr. Mehmet KİTİŞ, Director of the Institute of Environment and Cleaner Production, Murat TURAN, Head of Department, Harun HAŞİMOĞLU and Elif Özcan on behalf of the General Directorate of Environmental Management of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. On 24 September 2014, the training program continued with the presentations of Dr. Vildan TÜFEKÇİ, the project manager and coordinator of the "Determination of Bathing Water Profiles" study, and other project staff. Within the scope of Determination of Bathing Water Profiles, the participants were trained on "National and international legislation", "Responsibilities", "Profile determination methodology", "Classification", "Short-term pollution", "Assessment and monitoring techniques of cyanobacteria, phytoplankton and eutrophication in bathing areas" and "Bathing water web application, GIS (Geographic Information System) compatible database system".

On September 25, 2014, the training program started with the presentations of Dr. Selda HOCAOĞLU, the coordinator of the study on "Creating an Environmentally Friendly Wastewater Management Model in Tourism". In the training program, presentations on "Wastewater Management in Turkey", "Wastewater Recovery Practices and Water Use in Tourism Facilities", "Legal Regulations on the Reuse of Treated Wastewater", "Considerations in the Use of Treated Wastewater in Landscape Irrigation Water and Reservoirs", Rainwater Harvesting and Applicability in Tourism Facilities" and Wastewater Recovery Alternatives and Suggestions in Tourism" were made. In addition, a technical visit was organized to the pilot tourism facility selected as a pilot facility within the scope of the project.

On 26 September 2014, the closing workshop of the project started with the opening speeches made by Mr. Ali TAVLI, Vice President of Institutional Development on behalf of TÜBİTAK-MAM and Mr. Recep AKDENİZ, Deputy Director General on behalf of the General Directorate of Environmental Management. During the workshop, all participants were informed in detail about the work carried out and the results obtained within the scope of the project, and the web-based applications ( http://turkiyeplajlari.cevre.gov.tr/ ) and "wastewater recovery calculation tool for hotels" (http://www.csb.gov.tr/projeler/tay/  ) has been informed about this issue.
