The Noise Action Plan Report of the "Development of Alternative Scenarios for Noise Reduction in Sensitive Areas of Mersin" Project was presented at a ceremony held on June 5, World Environment Day in Mersin.
The World Environment Day event was attended by Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Burhanettin Kocamaz, Deputy Secretary General Mustafa Kemal Çokakoğlu, Head of Environmental Protection and Control Department Dr. Bülent Halisdemir, TUBITAK Marmara Research Center Environment and Clean Production Institute Deputy Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Haldun Karan, Chief Researcher Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nesimi Özkurt, Chief Researcher Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nesimi Özkurt, Expert Researcher Samet Feyyaz Hamamcı, Deputy Chief of Mersin Provincial Police, President of Mersin Tourism Operators Association, representative of Turkish Informatics Industrialists and Businessmen's Association, representative of Mersin University, representatives of institutions, organizations, chambers and associations and members of the press attended the meeting.
The "Development of Alternative Scenarios for Noise Mitigation in Sensitive Areas of Mersin" Project was initiated with the protocol signed between Mersin Metropolitan Municipality and TÜBİTAK MAM on June 5, 2016 and was finalized after almost two years of work. Within the scope of this project, noise mitigation scenarios were developed for road, railroad, industry and entertainment areas in residential areas where strategic noise maps were prepared in Mersin province. "Mersin Noise Action Plan Report" was prepared, which includes all the calculation and evaluation results obtained within the scope of the project.
Emphasizing that one of the important environmental problems of cities is noise pollution, Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Kocamaz stated that in order to prevent noise pollution in Mersin, a noise map of the city was prepared in cooperation with the Municipality and TUBITAK Marmara Research Center and action plans were created to prevent noise at its source by showing a good example of teamwork. The Mersin Noise Action Plan Report prepared within the scope of the project was presented to Mayor Burhanettin Kocamaz by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Haldun Karan, Deputy Director of TÜBİTAK MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute, at the June 5 World Environment Day ceremony organized by Mersin Metropolitan Municipality.
