"Workshop on Biological Monitoring in River and Lake Water Bodies" was held on April 04, 2014 at TÜBİTAK MAM Research Center within the scope of "Project on Determination of Sensitive Areas and Water Quality Targets on Basin Basis in Turkey" conducted by the General Directorate of Water Management of the Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs and carried out by TÜBİTAK-MAM Environment and Clean Production Institute. The meeting was attended by Consultant Faculty Members specialized in Biological Monitoring of Surface Waters, Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs General Directorate of Water Management, TÜBİTAK MAM METU expert staff.

The opening speeches of the project meeting were delivered by Prof. Dr. Mehmet KİTİŞ, Acting Director of TÜBİTAK MAM ÇTÜE and Dr. Selma AYAZ, Acting Deputy Director of ÇTÜE and Project Coordinator. The subject of the workshop was the use of common methods in monitoring studies, which is one of the most important steps of the project. In this context, sampling, analysis, analysis periods, reporting of the results obtained, and issues to be considered in field studies were discussed. The proposed common methods were presented to the participants by Prof. Dr. Nilgün KAZANCI for rivers, Prof. Dr. Nilsun DEMİR and Prof. Dr. Meriç ALBAY for lakes. The meeting ended with the exchange of ideas and various decisions for the implementation of the project in the following stages.
