Between 2 - 4 June 2015, within the scope of the GloBallast project coordinated by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) within the framework of the Ballast Water Convention, ballast water sampling and laboratory analysis training was carried out with the support of TÜBİTAK MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute and the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications in order to improve the implementation capacities of countries for Port State Controls.
Representatives of REMPEC (Mediterranean Region Marine Pollution Emergency Response Center) also participated in the workshop, which was attended by approximately 40 participants from Mediterranean countries and Turkey.
On the theoretical day 1 of the training, the Ballast Water Convention, technical guidelines on the implementation of the Convention and sampling/analysis methods were explained. On the second day, after the practical application of ballast water sampling on board at Dilovası-Çolakoğlu Port of İzmit Port Authority, laboratory studies on ballast water analysis were carried out at the Environment and Clean Production Institute.
