Antarctic National Science Program Roadmap Workshop

The "Antarctic National Science Program Roadmap Workshop" organized by the Turkish Naval Research Foundation (TÜDAV) was held at the Istanbul Chamber of Shipping on 18-19 November 2013 with the participation of polar research experts from Turkey and abroad and representatives from public institutions. Following the presentations of invited experts from the Scientific Committee for Antarctic Research (SCAR), British Antarctic Survey (BAS), Japan National Polar Research Institute (JARE) and Germany Alfred Wegener Polar Research Institute (AWI) on the Antarctic research activities carried out by their respective institutions, organizations and countries, presentations were made by national experts on the national potential and program proposals in the fields of marine, geology and geophysics, climate and medical research in Antarctica. Following the presentations on the first day, where logistics and international relations aspects were also discussed, the second day of the workshop was devoted to the preparation of the draft National Antarctic Science Program under the consultancy of invited international experts and with the contributions of national experts. The workshop, which was closed with evaluations and recommendations, was attended by the representative of TÜBİTAK MAM Environment and Clean Production Institute with a presentation and the representative of TÜBİTAK BİLGEM as an observer.
