Antarctic Lichens and Plants through the Eyes of Students

Two young students from Sakarya and Gaziantep realized a project called "Promotion of Antarctica's Lichens and Flowering Plants through Postal Art" by turning some of the lichens and flowering plants found in Antarctica into products such as postage stamps, envelopes and postcards with their own hand drawings within the scope of "mail art" work. They then printed this work in various sizes with the PTT General Directorate. Lichens and plants were collected during our National Antarctic Science Expedition, and some of them were sent to the students after they were analyzed in the laboratory. The students, who also took sections under the microscope, completed the drawings with their own artistic talents.

Within the scope of the project, students first used their products to measure the awareness of high school students. Then they continued to raise awareness by reaching hundreds of people through correspondence. With this work, they participated in the 2204-C High School Students Polar Research Project Competition in 2021. Afterwards, they made a presentation at the Fifth National Polar Sciences Workshop and had the opportunity to present their work on a platform with scientists who have been to the poles.
