With the project contract signed between TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM) and the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMI) on October 28, 2022, the "Creation of Strategic Noise Maps of Diyarbakır, Istanbul Atatürk, Mardin Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar, Muğla Dalaman, Trabzon, Batman, Çanakkale, Konya, Rize - Artvin and Tokat Airports" Project was initiated.
A total of 18 representatives from the General Directorate of State Airports Authority, Republic of Turkey Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, TUBITAK Marmara Research Center and 10 airports within the scope of the project participated in the project opening meeting held on Wednesday, December 28, 2022.
The opening speeches of the meeting were made by Mehmet Şakir Keskin, Advisor to the President of TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center, Assoc. Prof. Nesimi Özkurt, Leader of Air Quality and Environmental Noise Technologies Research Group of TÜBİTAK MAM Climate Change and Sustainability Vice Presidency, and Nuray Hüsmen, Modeling and Mapping Branch Manager of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change.
Samet Feyyaz Hamamcı, Project Coordinator and Environmental Noise Management Team Leader, made a presentation to the participants on environmental noise concepts, strategic noise mapping, TÜBİTAK MAM noise management studies, TÜBİTAK MAM Acoustic Measurement, Design and Modeling Laboratory infrastructure, project purpose, scope and importance, work plan, stakeholders and beneficiaries.
Within the scope of the project, strategic noise maps will be prepared for Diyarbakır, Istanbul Atatürk, Mardin Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar, Muğla Dalaman, Trabzon, Batman, Çanakkale, Konya, Rize - Artvin and Tokat Airports under the responsibility of the General Directorate of State Airports Authority within the scope of the principles and criteria specified in the Regulation on Environmental Noise Assessment and Management and the relevant EU directive.
