Due to Turkey's geographical structure and climate characteristics, avalanches cause loss of life and economic damages, especially in high altitude regions. The "Development of Avalanche Prevention and Monitoring Systems Project," which is the first of its kind in Turkey in this field It is being realized in cooperation with AFAD and TÜBİTAK. The signing ceremony of the project was held at TÜBİTAK Gebze campus. The protocol for the project was signed by AFAD President Governor Okay Memiş and TÜBİTAK President Prof. Dr. Orhan Aydın.

"Domestic and Innovative Solutions for Safe Living Spaces"

In his speech at the ceremony, AFAD President Governor Okay Memiş emphasized the importance of the project and said

"This project aims to minimize the risks that may occur in avalanche zones and provide innovative solutions with domestic capabilities. Risk monitoring and prevention systems will be brought to the field with both sensor technologies and barrier systems. Within the scope of the project, we aim to create safe living spaces with environmentally friendly and sustainable infrastructures."

Memiş, while conveying the technical details of the systems developed against avalanche risk, emphasized that domestic and national technologies are at the forefront of the project: "Passive systems will measure parameters such as solar radiation intensity, ambient temperature, snow height and wind speed through sensors. In active systems, avalanche prevention barriers produced from new generation building technology will be used. With these systems, we aim to minimize the loss of life and property by providing early intervention to avalanche danger."

"A Secure Future with Science and Technology"

Prof. Dr. Orhan Aydın, President of TÜBİTAK, said, "The project, which uses a combination of innovative technologies and environmentally friendly approaches, aims to increase safety in avalanche-prone areas and minimize the losses caused by disasters."

Aydın said, "The Avalanche Prevention and Monitoring Systems Development Project is a pioneering work that combines the use of environmentally friendly new generation building technology and high-tech sensor systems with the mission of protecting nature and increasing human safety. With this project, which adopts the principle of "We protect nature with nature", we aim to provide an innovative, reliable and sustainable solution against natural disasters."

Technological and Environmentally Friendly Approach Against Natural Disasters

The project will take the following important steps:

  • Using Next Generation Building Technology: The new generation construction technology, used for the first time in avalanche prevention sets in Turkey, is an environmentally friendly material derived from natural resources and stands out with its superior durability.
  • High Technology Sensor Systems: Critical data such as solar radiation, snow height and wind speed will be collected with the Prototype Central Station and Measurement Station to be placed at the top of the mountain in avalanche-prone areas.
  • Environmentally Friendly Energy Solutions: Systems powered by photovoltaic solar energy will provide a sustainable energy infrastructure that does not harm the environment.
  • Early Warning Mechanism: The collected data will be analyzed and early detection of avalanche formation will be ensured, thus minimizing disaster risks.
Science and Technology for a Secure Future

The outputs of the project will usher in a new era in Turkey's disaster management by offering both scientific and practical benefits. The data infrastructure to be used in disaster management and urban planning will be strengthened to protect settlements in avalanche-prone areas. In addition, the experts to be trained during the project will increase Turkey's level of knowledge and competence in this field.

An Innovative and Sustainable Solution

"Development of Avalanche Prevention and Monitoring Systems Project," For the first time in Turkey, it draws attention as a project where environmentally friendly new generation building technology and advanced technology sensor systems are used together against avalanche risk. Developed with the principle of "We protect nature with nature", this project aims to provide an innovative, reliable and sustainable solution against natural disasters.

The project, which will be realized with this pioneering cooperation between AFAD and TÜBİTAK, stands out as a success story that will strengthen our country's determination in disaster management and set an example on an international scale.
