The "South Marmara Hydrogen Shore" project, which was submitted to the Horizon Europe Program Clean Hydrogen Partnership (Clean Hydrogen Partnership) 2022 second period "Hydrogen Valleys" call, was entitled to be supported.

13 Project Partners including TÜBİTAK MAM from Turkey

In the project, which will be the first for our country within the scope of hydrogen valleys; there is one participant each from Germany, Italy and Morocco. From Turkey; South Marmara Development Agency, Sabancı University, Enerjisa Enerji Üretim A.Ş., Kale Seramik Çanakkale Kalebodur A.Ş., Türkiye Şişe ve Cam Fabrikaları A.Ş., Eti Maden, TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center, Turkish German University, Linde Gaz A.Ş., Bandırma On yededi Eylül University, Hidrojen Peroksit A.Ş., PWC Turkey and TENMAK are project partners.

8 Million Euro EU Funding for the Project

In this context, the total budget of the project with 16 stakeholders is approximately 37 Million Euros and the EU support is approximately 8 Million Euros.

The project aims to produce, transport and store 500 tons of green hydrogen annually using electricity generated from renewable energy, and to demonstrate its use in industry (Kale Seramik, Şişe Cam, Eti Maden, Hydrogen Peroxide) and for power generation for emergency applications.

Within the scope of the project, TÜBİTAK MAM will develop and field demonstrate fuel cell power generation systems for hydrogen production by hydrolysis of sodium boron hydride and emergency applications.

The Project Will Be the First Step in the Transition to a Regional Hydrogen Economy

At a time when the world is undergoing a major change and development process in the field of energy technologies due to the fight against climate change, ensuring energy supply security and global competition, technologies within the hydrogen value chain are emerging as the most important element in zero carbon strategies on a global scale, especially with the development and spread of renewable energy technologies.

Developing and implementing technologies for the production, transmission, transportation, storage and use of hydrogen in all areas, especially in the energy, industry, housing and transportation sectors, is of vital importance for our country in line with global developments.

In this context, the South Marmara Region is developing rapidly, especially in the manufacturing and chemical industries. This region is working on green hydrogen production and utilization within the valley concept by setting a clear vision to reach a carbon-free economy by 2053 in all sectors.

This project, which will be realized for the first time in our country, is considered to be the first step in the transition to a regional hydrogen economy.
