7th National Polar Sciences Symposium and 3rd Polar Festival

History

In 2019, with the establishment of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey Marmara Research Center Polar Research Institute (TÜBİTAK MAM KARE), a scientific organization structure that will serve as an institutional roof in the field of polar sciences in our country was implemented. Every year, the "National Polar Sciences Symposium", where scientific projects and studies carried out by Turkish scientists in the polar area, the results of scientific expeditions are evaluated and developments are discussed, and the "Polar Festival", where polar science studies are brought together with young people with the dimension of education and awareness.

Content:

The Seventh National Polar Science Symposium and the Third Polar Festival are planned to be held on December 4-5, 2023 at Yıldız Technical University Davutpaşa Campus under the coordination of our Institute, which has undertaken many tasks from the execution of National Polar Science Expeditions to the realization of many research and studies.

  • April 12 - 13, 2017 First National Workshop on Polar Sciences - hosted by Istanbul Technical University,
  • September 12 - 13, 2018 Second National Workshop on Polar Sciences - hosted by Istanbul Technical University,
  • September 5 - 6, 2019 Third National Workshop on Polar Sciences - hosted by Middle East Technical University,
  • October 22 - 23, 2020 Fourth National Workshop on Polar Sciences - TÜBİTAK MAM was held on the online platform under the coordination of the Polar Research Institute.
  • November 30, 2021 Fifth National Workshop on Polar Sciences - hosted by Gebze Technical University,
  • November 30, 2022 Sixth National Workshop on Polar Sciences - hosted by Karadeniz Technical University.

7th National Polar Sciences Symposium Detailed Information:

The National Polar Sciences Symposium, where researchers who have carried out or want to carry out various scientific studies in both the North Pole and the South Pole in our country come together regularly every year, is organized for researchers, academics and teachers as it deals with scientific processes. Graduate and undergraduate students are also encouraged to attend.

Participation to the symposium is free of charge.

3rd Polar Festival Detailed Information:

This year marks the third edition of the Polar Festivities, where the polar science studies carried out by our country both in the Arctic and Antarctica are brought together with young people with the dimension of education and awareness. The festival will include popular science seminars by scientists who have conducted research in the poles, screenings of Turkish documentaries filmed in the poles, an exhibition of stunning nature photographs taken by researchers in the poles, fun polar science workshops, polar project presentations by high school students, polar research clubs of universities and polar creatures mascots. The festival is open to primary, secondary, high school, high school, university students and teachers, as well as participants of all ages, and is free of charge.
