AMOLED displays have many advantages over LCD displays, such as self-illumination, display speed, wide viewing angle, thin and light weight, and applicability on flexible substrates. In addition, AMOLED technology is highly energy efficient as it does not require backlighting and filtering like LCDs.

TÜBİTAK-MAM-ME Photonics Technologies Group has started R&D studies for OLED display prototype for the first time in Turkey and accelerated these studies and transformed them into a project targeting AMOLED display prototype production. In this context, the project numbered "113G035" and titled "Development of 320*240 Pixel RGB AMOLED Avionic Display with 320*240 Pixels", supported by the Public Institutions Research and Development Projects Support Program (ARDEB-KAMAG 1007 Program), undertaken by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources as the Client Institution (MK) and managed by Dr. Salih DABAK, started on 01 March 2015.

The inaugural meeting of the project was held on 17 April 2015 at the Institute of Materials with the participation of representatives of MK, KAMAG, Project Monitoring Committee, Vice President for Strategy and Technology Development Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Makaracı, Director of the Institute of Materials Prof. Dr. Metin Usta, institute managers and the project team. The meeting started with a presentation by Dr. Salih DABAK, the project manager, which included general information about the project, and continued with presentations prepared by KAMAG and MADES on project monitoring and evaluation, financial issues and 1007 regulations.
