3RD ISTANBUL INTERNATIONAL WATER FORUM

The 3rd Istanbul International Water Forum (IUSF), organized by the Water Institute of Turkey, was held at the Haliç Congress Center between 27-29 May 2014. IUSF has been organized every three years since 2008, one year before the World Water Forum. The 5th World Water Forum was organized by Turkey in 2009. In addition to the panels and other meetings included in the official program, IUSF is also an occasion for informal meetings of the leading figures of the international water community.

The two main themes of this year's Forum are Water Security and Water Law. TÜBİTAK MAM Institute for Environment and Cleaner Production (IEPP) participated in the panel "Applicability of Water Governance at Different Levels and Regions", the side event "Building a Science - Policy Platform" organized by the International Water Resources Association (IWRA) and the side event "Water Challenges in a Changing World: Water JPI and WatEUR" organized by the Spanish Ministry of Water and Economy and the Water Institute of Turkey.

TÜBİTAK MAMT ÇTÜE's projects presented at the Forum Stand," Preparation of Basin Protection Action Plans (HAVZA), Determination of Sensitive Areas and Quality Targets on Basin Basis in Turkey (HASSAS), Project on Determination of Water Pollution Resulting from the Use of Plant Protection Products and Determination of Environmental Quality Standards on Substance or Substance Group Basis (BİKOP), Karacaören I and II Dam Lake and Beyşehir Lake Basin Protection Plan and Determination of Special Provisions (SPECIAL PROVISION), Determination of Hazardous Substances in Coastal and Transitional Waters of Turkey and Ecological Coastal Dynamics Project (KIYITEMA) and Determination of Bathing Water Profiles in Turkish Coasts (YUTAY)".

TÜBİTAK MAM ÇTÜE Director Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kitiş and Deputy Director Dr. Selma Ayaz represented the Institute at the Opening Ceremony and provided updates on our projects to the Minister of Forestry and Water Affairs Prof. Dr. Veysel Eroğlu and other high-level visitors of the Fair. Institute researchers Dr. İpek Erzi, Hande Gürsoy Haksevenler and Pembe Özer had the opportunity to hold promotional and cooperation meetings with representatives of the national and international water community during the Forum.

The Istanbul International Water Forum is the leading international event of the Water Institute of Turkey. The results of the Forum will be presented at the 7th World Water Forum in Korea in 2015. TUBITAK is represented on the Board of Directors of the Water Institute of Turkey by the Director of the TÜBİTAK MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute.
