There is no production of self-contained, oxygen-producing, closed-circuit breathing apparatus in Turkey. With the May 13, 2014 Soma disaster, the necessity of using these devices in mines and the high need for them in Turkey came to the fore.
After conducting the necessary preliminary research, R&D studies for the production of these masks in Turkey were initiated in January 2015 at the TÜBİTAK MAM Chemical Technology Institute. In the project titled "Development of Gas Trapping Adsorbents and Catalysts for Use in Escape Masks", it was aimed to obtain know-how on the production of chemicals (catalysts, adsorbents and initiators) that make up a large part of the cost of self-sufficient oxygen-producing breathing apparatus and to conduct a pre-feasibility study for their production in Turkey.
After the project, a preliminary prototype of the mask was produced with the preliminary work carried out with MAKEL Teknoloji A.Ş. In the next stage, it is aimed to realize the mass production of the respiratory devices, which are the final product, in accordance with the standards, with national facilities, in cooperation with the company.
