In recent years, there have been significant developments in accelerator technologies and Accelerated Mass Spectrometry (AMS) in the world. In this regard, the National 1 MV Accelerated Mass Spectroscopy Laboratory Project supported by the Ministry of Development at the TÜBİTAK MAM Institute of Earth and Marine Sciences has reached the final stage.

On September 28, 2015, the seminar series started with the opening speech of Prof. Dr. Abdullah Karaman, Director of the Institute of Earth and Marine Sciences, and Dr. Turhan Doğan, the project coordinator, introduced the studies carried out within the scope of the project and the opportunities it will bring to our country and gave information about the projects that can be realized thanks to this infrastructure.

Within the scope of the seminar, leading AMS Laboratory directors and researchers from Japan also made presentations. Prof. Dr. Hiroyuki Matsuzaki and Yasuto Miyake from the University of Tokyo gave presentations on "Accelerated Mass Spectrometry (AMS) Investigations of Nuclear Power Plants and Nuclear Power Plant Leaks (Fukushima Example) with Iodine Isotopes" and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sasa Kimikazu from the University of Tsukuba gave a presentation on "Introduction of the 6 MV Accelerated Mass Spectrometry (AMS) Facility at the University of Tsukuba".
Prior to the seminars, meetings were held between the delegation from Japan and the officials of the AMS Laboratory of the Institute of Earth and Marine Sciences to discuss cooperation opportunities and joint project development that could be realized in the near future.
