Within the scope of the project carried out in cooperation with the TÜBİTAK MAM Institute of Chemical Technology and the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, the "Waste Battery Recovery Facility" established in Kartepe by Exitcom Recycling is Turkey's first primary battery recovery facility with a daily capacity of 1 ton. TÜBİTAK MAM President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bahadır Tunaboylu visited the facility on April 28, 2016 and received information from the authorities. The facility is planned to be inaugurated with a ceremony in May.
The project aimed to prevent the landfilling of waste primary batteries and to recover the valuable elements in the batteries. It was aimed to provide economic and environmental contribution to Turkey.
In the past, batteries in Turkey were collected, sorted and sent to disposal facilities in our country and buried. With this facility, primary batteries will be separated and recovered back to their raw materials. The capacity of the facility is much higher than the capacity of the batteries collected in our country and has a processing capacity 3 times the collected batteries. In our country, 300 tons/year of waste batteries are collected. This facility has a processing capacity of approximately 1000 tons/year (3 shifts).
The plant is modeled to process secondary batteries as a processing capability. In the following periods, it is aimed to process precious metals with new projects by conducting certain R&D studies in the facility.
