Towards COP31: Sustainable Future International Media Program, the International Media Coordination Delegation visited TÜBİTAK MAM and examined Türkiye's ’Green Transformation“ vision and domestic R&D projects in this field.

The delegation of the International Media Coordination Office of the Presidential Communications Directorate visited TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM), which guides Türkiye's “Green Transformation” and “Net Zero Emission” goals with science-based solutions. Towards the 31st United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31): Sustainable Future International Media Program’, a comprehensive presentation was made about the strategic studies carried out by the center and its future vision.

Within the scope of the visit, the delegation had the opportunity to observe the projects carried out in the laboratories representing the advanced research infrastructure of TÜBİTAK MAM. While the studies carried out in laboratories where biomass and coal are converted into synthetic fuels through thermochemical processes were explained in the focus on energy transformation, digital monitoring systems developed on the sustainability of water resources and wastewater recovery were shared in the water management unit. In the air pollution and climate change laboratory, new generation air quality measurement systems supported by artificial intelligence as well as climate risk analyses prepared for Istanbul, Gaziantep, Ordu-Giresun, Erzurum and Milas-Bodrum airports were presented to the delegation. Emission reduction solutions in industrial facilities and climate action plans prepared for provinces such as Mersin, Çanakkale, Tekirdağ and Yalova were detailed.

At the Turkish Food Innovation Center (TÜGİP), circular economy projects that transform agricultural by-products into high value-added components once again demonstrated the center's innovative approach to food supply security.

Following the field visits, the program concluded with assessments on increasing the visibility of Türkiye's R&D capacity in the international arena. The program aimed to raise global awareness ahead of the COP31 Summit scheduled to be held in November and to strongly reflect Türkiye's “Net Zero” vision to the international community.
