The opening meeting of the "Preparation of Local Climate Change Action Plans for Tekirdağ, Çanakkale and Yalova Provinces" project carried out by TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM) Environment and Cleaner Production Institute was held online on November 16, 2021.
At the meeting, speeches and presentations were made by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Haldun Karan, Deputy Director of the Institute of Environment and Cleaner Production, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çiğdem Tuğaç, Local Climate Change Policies Branch Manager of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, and Dr. Tuğba Doğan Güzel, Project Coordinator.
In addition to the project teams of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Department of Climate Change and Adaptation and TÜBİTAK MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute, a total of 27 people participated in the meeting, including representatives of municipalities and related sub-units, special provincial administrations, Provincial Directorates of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Provincial Directorates of Industry and Technology, Regional Directorates of Meteorology, Regional Directorates of Turkish Statistical Institute, Regional Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Chambers of Agriculture.
Within the scope of the "Project for the Preparation of Local Climate Change Action Plans for Tekirdağ, Çanakkale and Yalova Provinces" carried out under the contract signed between TÜBİTAK MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute and the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization on October 22, 2021, Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality, Çanakkale Municipality and Yalova Municipality within the provincial borders; the project aims to prepare emission inventories of the main sources that cause greenhouse gas emissions, to present the current situation scenario, to calculate the amount of greenhouse gas emissions for the targets set, to discuss climate change adaptation measures in general, and to prepare "Tekirdağ Climate Change Action Plan", "Çanakkale Climate Change Action Plan" and "Yalova Climate Change Action Plan" in the light of all these evaluations.
In the next phase of the project, following the completion of the data collection processes for the GHG emission inventory, it is planned to organize provincial meetings where the inventory results and alternatives for GHG emission reduction will be presented to the project stakeholders. In the following stages of the project, adaptation measures in terms of sensitive areas identified within the scope of adaptation to climate change will be determined in line with stakeholder opinions.
