Dear Researcher

Polar research is one of the issues that Turkey has attached importance to in recent years. Published in 2017, the National Polar Science Program (UKBP) established the bureaucratic, financial, scientific and technical infrastructure for the studies to be carried out in the polar regions (Antarctic, Arctic and Oceanic areas). The vision of the UKBP is "to be among the leading countries in the world with its original scientific studies on polar sciences". For this reason, 66 projects have been funded in the polar regions in recent years, and Six National Antarctic Science Expeditions (TAE) and Two National Arctic Science Expeditions (TASE) have been successfully completed. Within the scope of these expeditions, research was conducted on different topics in the fields of Earth Sciences, Social and Human Sciences, Life Sciences and Physical Sciences.

This special issue aims to bring together Earth Science studies carried out in the Polar Regions and to dedicate it to Atok Karaali, the first known Turkish Scientist to set foot in Antarctica.

We are pleased to invite contributions to this special issue from the global geoscience community who have conducted research in the Polar Regions.
