Piezoelectric Technologies Laboratory
About Us
In the Piezoelectric Technologies Laboratory within TÜBİTAK MAM Material Technologies (BY), piezoelectric ceramics in different forms and geometric structures are produced entirely locally with a comprehensive infrastructure that can carry out the entire process from raw material to final product. This infrastructure includes shaping with double and single axis high tonnage hydraulic presses, specially designed sintering/curing furnaces, high precision surface smoothness/parallelism with double-sided lapping devices, electroplating by screen printing method and special polarization systems that allow multiple polarization. Also in the laboratory, piezoelectric charge constant (d33), voltage constant (g33), resonance/antiresonance frequencies, impedance, capacitance, dielectric coefficient/loss, mechanical quality factor (Qm) and electromechanical coupling constant (k). Advanced instruments such as the Precision Source/measurement unit (2 channels, 100 fA) and Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) are also used for high-precision measurement of voltage in mV and current in nA generated by piezoelectric effect, determination of current-voltage (I-V) characteristics and detailed analysis. These extensive fabrication and characterization capabilities directly support the development of innovative piezoelectric materials and applications in different matrices (including piezoelectric composites). The laboratory has all the advanced equipment and processes required for the indigenous design, fabrication (from raw material to final product), electrodeposition, polarization and comprehensive electrical characterization of piezoelectric ceramics, as well as the development of application-specific sensors, actuators and transducers.
