International Training Workshop on Domestic Wastewater Treatment in Artificial Wetlands

The International Training Workshop on: Sewage Treatment by Natural Processes; Constructed Wetlands" was held at TÜBİTAK MAM between 14 - 18 December 2015.

Natural treatment systems and domestic wastewater treatment mainly in artificial wetlands, sustainable water management and basin management themes were also discussed, and knowledge transfer and cooperation development issues were also shared among the participants. Officials from TÜBİTAK MAM ÇTÜE, INWRDAM, Pakistan Water Resources Research Council, Malaysia Directorate of Irrigation and Drainage, Bangladesh Ministry of Water Resources, Iraq, Tunisia, Uzbekistan, Istanbul Technical University, Namık Kemal University, General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSİ), Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Water and Sewerage Administration (İSU), Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality Water and Sewerage Administration (SASKİ), Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Water and Sewerage Administration (İSKİ) and TURMEPA from non-governmental organizations also attended the workshop.

The workshop started with the opening speeches of Dr. Murad Jabay Bino, Executive Director of INWRDAM, Assoc. Prof. Kemal Güneş, INWRDAM Turkey Officer and Dr. Selma Ayaz, Director of TÜBİTAK MAM ÇTÜE. With the presentations of ÇTÜE researchers, ÇTÜE's studies on water resources were introduced. In addition, one faculty member each from ITU Faculty of Civil Engineering, Department of Environmental Engineering and Namık Kemal University Çorlu Faculty of Engineering, Department of Environmental Engineering was invited to the workshop and presented "Integrated Watershed Management" and "Modelling Reactions on Constructed Wetlands". Within the scope of the field trip; Gebze wastewater treatment plant, Balçık Village artificial wetland and Gebze Denizli Village drinking water treatment plant were visited under the supervision of Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Water and Sewerage Administration (ISU) officials and a comprehensive technical visit program was carried out.
