Within the scope of the "Integrated Marine Pollution Monitoring (DEN-IZ) Program", the III National Marine Monitoring and Assessment Symposium was held in Antalya between 6-9 December 2022.
Ministry of Industry and Technology, Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Universities, Local Authorities and Non-Governmental Organizations participated in the opening of the symposium with wide participation of the Ministry of Industry and Technology, Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Universities, Local Authorities and NGOs.
In his speech, Yozgatlıgil said, "We aim to make environmental status assessments of all our seas with real and reliable, multi-disciplinary data sets, to create management targets and to create scientific tools for the follow-up of these targets and to transfer them to the user."
The symposium included presentations of DEN-IZ Program outputs as well as other monitoring/observation and evaluation activities based on current data and practices.
III. National Marine Monitoring and Assessment Symposium" aimed to share the studies carried out under the headings that can be defined as monitoring sub-components in a way to reflect monitoring and assessment together. In addition to oral and poster presentations, a photo exhibition was also organized at the symposium, and plaques were presented to the winners and those who contributed to the work.
The symposium was attended by approximately 200 people including scientists, researchers and representatives from public institutions and organizations, universities, municipalities, non-governmental organizations and international institutions and organizations.
During the symposium; "DEN-IZ Introduction and DEN-IZ Movie Screening", "Mucilage and Marmara Sea" special session, "Eutrophication", "Pollutants", "Impact of Climate Change on Our Seas", "Remote Sensing and Observation Systems", "Biodiversity and Habitat", Sessions on "Marine Litter", "Biodiversity - Phytoplankton", "Biodiversity - Benthic Macroalgae", "Biodiversity - Zooplankton and Fish" and "New Issues/New Areas" and a panel where all sessions were evaluated were held.
DEN-IZ Program, which has been carried out under the coordination of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM) since 2014, is carried out with more than 100 researchers and subject matter experts apart from the Marine Research and Technologies Research Group team of TÜBİTAK MAM Climate Change and Sustainability Vice Presidency.
DEN-İZ Program is carried out for all seas in 3-year periods by adopting an ecosystem-based monitoring approach within the framework of national legislation, international conventions and EU directives. With the DEN-İZ Program, a regular monitoring network is established at 425 points in all our seas, including the Black Sea, Marmara Sea and Straits, the Mediterranean Sea and the Aegean Sea, with 17 Research Institutions, more than 150 scientists and 7 research vessels/boats under the coordination of TÜBİTAK MAM and under the leadership of the Ministry, and the chemical and ecological status of our seas is determined and the effectiveness of the measures is evaluated.
