The opening ceremony of the new building of the Turkey Technology Center (TTC), one of the nine engineering centers of General Electric (GE) in the world and growing with new investments, was held on June 19, 2014 at TÜBİTAK MAM Technology Free Zone. The ceremony was attended by Canan M. Özsoy, Chairman and CEO of GE Turkey; Dr. Aybike Molbay, General Manager of GE Technology Center; Sedat Güldoğan, Deputy Undersecretary for Defense Industries; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bahadır Tunaboylu, President of TÜBİTAK MAM.
GE Turkey Technology Center is GE's partnership with Tusas Motor Sanayii (TEI) in R&D, design and development of new technologies, manufacturing and service technologies and software for aircraft engines. Nearly 300 Turkish engineers working at the TTC develop the design and technology for GE Aviation's commercial and military aircraft, ship and industrial engines.
As part of the expansion of the Turkey Technology Center, a new building was inaugurated in Gebze that will focus on R&D and local innovation. This expansion is part of GE's $900 million investment commitment focused on developing infrastructure, sharing knowledge and promoting local research in the country.
GE Aviation's Coatings Central Laboratory, located globally only at TTC, will focus on R&D to develop new coating test methods to ensure the long flight life of coated aircraft engine parts. The technologies and methods developed at the lab are planned to be exported to more than 20 countries in Europe and the Far East, as well as to the United States.
