ACLIFS Project 1st Regional Workshops were held in Isparta and Izmir

Co-financed by the European Union and the Republic of Turkey under the Climate Change Adaptation Grant Scheme (CCAGP) and carried out under the coordination of TUBITAK Marmara Research Center in partnership with Isparta University of Applied Sciences, Ege University, Istanbul University, Istanbul Technical University, International Directorate of Agricultural Research Institute and Fruit Research Institute "ACLIFS - Assessing the Impacts of Climate Change on Food Security and Enhancing the Resilience of Rural Communities" project was held in the meeting halls of Isparta Eğirdir Fruit Research Institute (MAREM) and İzmir Menemen International Agricultural Research and Training Center Directorate (UTAEM).

 

In total, approximately 130 and 150 people attended the meetings held in MAREM and UTAEM respectively. The opening speeches of the meetings were delivered by Mr. Şerif ÖZONGUN, Director of the Fruit Research Institute, and Mr. Dr. Şerif ÖZONGUN and Mr. Tuncay TOPDEMİR, Director of the International Agricultural Research and Training Center. Tuncay TOPDEMİR, Director of the International Agricultural Research and Training Center. Afterwards, project coordinator Dr. Tuğba DOĞAN GÜZEL gave information about the project activities and workshop program. During the presentation, all participants, both physically and online, were asked questions through the application and their opinions and evaluations on climate change, its impacts and adaptation to climate change were received.

 

Then, in the workshops held in 3 sessions on 4 different tables and online platform, participants exchanged views on the impacts of climate change on agricultural production, socio-economic impacts of the transformation and adaptation measures that can be implemented to adapt to climate change.

 

In the next phase of the project, it is planned to organize 6 trainings, 6 focus group meetings and 2 regional workshops in addition to field studies.
